October 2016 Quarterly meeting held

CEDnet members gathered early in October for the quarterly meeting at Highlander Research and Education Center in New Market, TN.

Cednet founding Board member Lourdes Garza passed away

Dear friends and colleagues,

After a brave fight with cancer and subsequent recent illnesses, Ms. Lourdes Garza, Director of the Office of Hispanic Ministry in Knoxville, left this earthly plane during the night last night to be by the side of Our Lord.

Our Hispanic community is mourning the loss of an exemplary Leader, a good friend to many, and a tenacious advocate for the welfare and rights of people.

Ms. Garza was the force behind many projects for the local Hispanic community; always willing to make that extra effort to make things work. Ms. Garza was one of the core members of Latino Task Force, past board director of CEDnet the organization that started LTF, and one of the founding members of the board that created Centro Hispano de East Tennessee.

She leaves a void in our hearts and community that will never be filled.

Join us in expressing our most sincere condolences to her children and family, and to the Catholic diocese staff who worked so closely with her on so many of her faithful endeavors.

Lourdes was a good friend to me, and my most inspiring mentor; she though me what it means to lead with your heart, and I miss her dearly.

We will announce when a mass in her honor will be celebrated. We welcome your support and attendance.

Thank you.

Rosie Noriega, volunteer chair
